Pioneering Climate Careers through Education and Professional Development
(2006–2012 | China)
Between 2006 and 2012, we proudly contributed to shaping China’s early carbon education and auditing workforce through a series of influential training and curriculum design initiatives.
In partnership with Xiamen University and the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI), we co-developed China’s first international certificate programme in organisational carbon accounting. This curriculum, focused on carbon measurement, was first delivered by Nigel Zhang in 2012. The programme earned recognition from the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Standardisation Committee for its innovative and rigorous design.
We later expanded our impact by designing a tailored curriculum for the Graduate School of Peking University (Shenzhen Campus), with a focus on carbon accounting in the transportation and automotive industries. This programme encouraged students to assess the carbon footprint of electric vehicles through a lifecycle perspective, promoting deeper thinking around sustainability and innovation.
Advancing the Carbon Auditor Profession
We played a key role in training carbon auditor candidates for China’s leading Designated Operational Entities (DOEs) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Our rigorous training was recognised by the UNFCCC, with records retained as proof of competency for carbon project validation and verification.
DOEs Trained:
- China Quality Certification Centre (CQC, E-0044)
- China Environmental United Certification (CEC, E-0034)
- China Classification Society (CCS, E-0046)
We also delivered in-house carbon auditor training for TÜV Rheinland Group, a German DOE and one of the first accredited entities under the CDM. In addition, we conducted Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) capacity-building programmes across 29 provinces in China, funded by the European Union, France, and Denmark.
